The Accent of Organic Wood

by Tony Vo January 24, 2020
written by Tony Vo January 24, 2020

Organic wood is such delightful and splendid material for the interior layout as well as all the furnitures. Due to the versatility of application, there are plenty of wood variants on the market with distinctive color hue, durability, and price range. Depending on your style and preference, you might find a matching wooden set for your lovely home.

Wood is universally beautiful to man. It is the most humanly intimate of all materials

Frank Louyd Wright

Throughout history, wooden materials are commonly used in almost all civilizations, such as The Ancient Middle East, Paleolithic, Egyptian, Asian, for living essentials such as shelter, furniture, tool, energy, writing material, etc. In Northern Europe, organic wood has become a traditional construction material due to the artistic and durability of this resource. In sequences, many nordic style home designs apply to a broader range of wood species such as Oak, Cedar, Alder, Pine, Cherry, and offer the natural vibrancy to their designs.

In Wood We Trust

In the modern-day, natural wood is still an essential building material to create deep emotional living ambiance. It provides an overwhelming beneficial mental effect, triggers the creative and imaginative abilities in our mind. According to “Indoor Wood Ambiance”, biological research on natural material, people who live in this environment are less stressful, more productive, and have lower pain perception than those who are not.

In addition to the aesthetic features, housing covered by organic wood is highly energy efficient. It minimizes the heat and cool from your heater and air conditioner to leak out.

Even with the astonishing assets that general, wooden materials provide for strength, beauty, and application, we cannot deny that this material is one of the hardest forms when it comes to preservation and setting.

Firstly, it is highly sensitive to weather conditions. Under the summer or raining season, high ultraviolet sunlight and heavy rain are its great enemies that alter the surface color, break the chemical bond, causing it to split or swell. Secondly, animals such as ant, termites, or sharp claws pets can also be the factor of ruining the perfect appearance of the lumber.

It just Timber right?

Oak, Birch, Maple Cherry, Walnut, Mahogany etc are considered as hardwood materials. Furniture and interior made by these types of wood are durable and more comfortable to maintain. However, they are much slower to harvest and manufacture due to the slow growth rate and challenging to work with. As a result, the price of these materials is also higher compared to the softwood.

Opposite from the hardwood materials, softwood types are flexible to crafts and fast-growing rate. Therefore, they are more familiar with the lower price range. Softwoods also have a lighter color outlook and often appear in flank shape for the scaffolding, wall, floor cover, and furniture, etc. There are also plenty of options for softwood materials, including, Pines, White Spruce, Cedar, Larch, Western Hemlock, etc.

The Sense of Natural Ambient

For such an artisan decorative material, wood is undoubtedly a classy well known for the versatility for plenty of interior decor theme. However, some of the styles are not very well compatible with the texture. The Urban Modern and Industrial decoration requires a minimal of wooden material instead of glass, iron, and plastic. Similarly, it is also critical to avoid too much lumber material in the other theme as well.

Minimalist is the decoration style that encourages the clean and clutter-free in room’s layout as well as furniture. Therefore, it is relatively sensitive to arrange some of the wooden ornaments because it is likely to break the simplicity form.

The safe option is to install organic wood on the floor, ceiling, door, and window. Also, lightly finished color woods such as white, light brown, and grey should be the matching palette. It would be best if you considered choosing the softwood material and with a low textured surface such as White Spruce, Ash, or Lodgepole.

Scandinavian is also an admirable interior decor that embraces a majority of wooden furniture and layout. Often, the wooden floor for this style is glossy and shining, offering a sense of cleanliness and lavish environment. Scandinavian is quite similar to the minimalist for the simple arrangement, displaying higher contract wood makes this style unique. Dark tone Mahogany, East Indian Rosewood and Teak are common to work with white coat furniture. On the other hand, Pitch Pine, White Spruce and Maple are the conventional Scandinavian palette.

The Bible

Similarly, Ceramic, Mable, Onyx, or Granite are usually not the best option for Bohemian lovers. Instead, Mahogany, Walnut, East Indian Rosewood or Scots Pine are better to feature the wild and relaxed mood in this category. In contrast with the Minimalist, this decor theme allows you to set your mind loose. The wooden furniture adds a majority of artistic vibes into the layout. A walnut side chair, or a maple coffee table can be a great option to balance the high salutation color from your tapestry, floor rug, pillowcase, and curtain.

Industrial Theme Application

This is perhaps one of the hardest applications for wooden material for a simple reason. Timber texture works well with concrete and metal material, which are the primary substance for industrial design. It is because of the high authenticity conflict between the natural and industrial equipment.

However, there is always a solution. Firstly, focusing on the large surface layout such as wall, floor, or ceiling to apply Oak, Teak, or Western Hemlock. The more glossy and dark hue color, the better to reflect and harmonize with other metal, clay, and concrete material. Secondly, consider hardwood material to sustain the weight of heavy metal furniture and durability. Besides, rustic wood epoxy is also a great idea to enhance the chemical resistance and reduce the cleaning effort.
